The Race of Multi-Tasking Clowns

Many contestants entered the unicycle race, but only the best multi-tasking clown came out on top, considering that each had to juggle clubs while trying to win the race! Most of the pack were soon disqualified after dropping a club or falling off the unicycle. In the end, four of the best clowns crossed the finish line.

From this information and the clues below, can you determine each clown's full (real) name, club color (one is silver), and placement?

Places: 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th
First Names: Kyle, Matt, Jake, Leon
Surnames: Turner, Pettle, Vertigo, Wheeley
Colors: Green, Orange, Silver, Red

1. Mr. Turner (who isn't Matt) finished one place ahead of the red club juggler.

2. The four are Leon, Mr. Vertigo, the one who juggled with orange clubs, and the one who came in third place.

3. Kyle finished behind (but not one place behind) Mr. Wheeley.

4. Matt and Mr. Pettle finished consecutively, in some order.

5. The one who juggled with green clubs finished two places behind Jake.

What was the puzzle?

Let's take a look at the given data.

------------------------------------------------------------

Places: 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th

First Names: Kyle, Matt, Jake, Leon

Surnames: Turner, Pettle, Vertigo, Wheeley

Colors: Green, Orange, Silver, Red

1. Mr. Turner (who isn't Matt) finished one place ahead of the red club juggler.

2. The four are Leon, Mr. Vertigo, the one who juggled with orange clubs, and the one who came in third place.

3. Kyle finished behind (but not one place behind) Mr. Wheeley.

4. Matt and Mr. Pettle finished consecutively, in some order.

5. The one who juggled with green clubs finished two places behind Jake.

------------------------------------------------------------

We will make a table like below and fill it step by step.

 STEPS :

1] As per clue (2), Leon, Mr. Vertigo, the one who juggled with orange clubs, and the one who came in third place are supposed to be different. Hence, Leon or Vertigo didn't finish at 3. So, Pettle or Turner must be at 3.

2] But as per (1), Matt isn't a Turner, and as per (4) Matt and Pettle are two different persons. Hence, Matt didn't finish at 3 for sure.

3] As per (3), Mr. Wheely too can't be at 3 as in that case no placement would be left for Kyle. And Jake too can't be at 3 as in that case no placement would be left for the one who juggled with green clubs.

So, if Leon, Matt and Jake aren't at 3 then Kyle must be at 3 having surname Pettle or Turner.

4] With that, Mr. Wheely must have finished first as clue (3) suggests.

In The Race of Multi-Tasking Clowns

5] Now, as per (1), Turner didn't finish at no.4 since there would be no place for red club juggler. Also, as per (4), Pettle can't be at 4 since Matt can't be at 3 (STEP 3). Hence, at no.4, Vertigo is there.

In The Race of Multi-Tasking Clowns

6] As per (2), Vertigo and Leon are 2 different contestants. Also, as per clue (5) Jake can't be at no.4 as in that case there would be no place left for the one who juggled green clubs. Hence, the first name of Vertigo is Matt.

In The Race of Multi-Tasking Clowns

7] Now, clue (4) suggests Pettle is at no.3

In The Race of Multi-Tasking Clowns

8] The only place for the Turner is no.2 and by (1), Kyle Pettle is red club juggler.

In The Race of Multi-Tasking Clowns

9] Now, the only locations left for the contestants pointed by clue (5) i.e. for Jake and green club juggler are 2 and 4.

In The Race of Multi-Tasking Clowns

10] The only location left for Leon is no.1 and as per (2), Leon and orange club juggler are different. Hence, Leon must be a silver club juggler and Jake Turner is orange club juggler.

A New Word Every Day!

During a six-day period from Monday through Saturday, Eliza Pseudonym and her friends Anna, Barbra, Carla, Delilah, and Fiona have subscribed to an internet mailing list that features a new word every day

No two women subscribed on the same day. On each day during the six-day period, a different word has been featured (abulia, betise, caryatid, dehisce, euhemerism, and floruit, in some order).

From the clues below, determine the day on which each woman subscribed, and the day on which each word was featured.

1. Exactly one of the women has a name beginning with the same letter of the alphabet as the word featured on the day that she subscribed to the mailing list.

2. The word "caryatid" was featured precisely two days prior to Fiona joining the mailing list.

3. Carla joined the mailing list on Friday.

4. Anna signed up for the mailing list precisely one day after the word "euhemerism" was highlighted.

5. Wednesday's word did not end with the letter "e".

6. Barbra subscribed precisely three days after the word "dehisce" was featured.

Here is every word of woman of the day!

A New Word Every Day!

Assigned Word to the Woman of the Day

What was the challenge?

As we know, Eliza Pseudonym and her friends Anna, Barbra, Carla, Delilah, and Fiona have subscribed to an internet mailing list that features a new word every day. No two women subscribed on the same day. On each day during the six-day period, a different word has been featured (abulia, betise, caryatid, dehisce, euhemerism, and floruit, in some order).

And given clues are -

-----------------------------------------------------------------

--------------------------------------------------------------

Let's make a table like below and fill it one by one as per clues.

Assigned Word to the Woman of the Day
 STEPS :

1] As per (3), Carla joined the mailing list on Friday. And as per (6), Barbra's subscription day must be Thursday, Friday or Saturday with word 'dehisce' on Monday or Tuesday or Wednesday.

But as per (5), ''dehisce'' can't be on Wednesday and Carla has already joined on Friday, hence Barbra must have joined on Thurday with word "dehisce" featured on Monday.

Assigned Word to the Woman of the Day

2] Only possible location for "caryatid" and Fiona for (2) to be true are Thursday and Saturday respectively. That's because Monday is already 'occupied' by "dehisce" so Fiona can't be on Wednesday. And as we can see, Thursday and Friday already 'occupied' by Barbra and Carla.

Assigned Word to the Woman of the Day

3] With that, for (4) to be true, only possible location for "euhemerism" is Tuesday and for Anna is Wednesday.

Assigned Word to the Woman of the Day

4] As per (1), Delilah and Eliza can't be on Monday & Tuesday at a time as that will violate (1). Therefore, Delilah must be on Tuesday and Eliza on Monday.

Assigned Word to the Woman of the Day

5] As per (5), "betise can't appear on Wednesday.

Suppose it appears on Friday.

CASE 1 : The word "abulia" with Anna on Wednesday & "floruit" with Fiona on Saturday. This violates (1), as there would be 2 women have names beginning with the same letter of the alphabet as the word featured on the day that she subscribed to the mailing list.

CASE 2 :  The word "floruit" with Anna on Wednesday & "abulia" with Fiona on Saturday. Again, this is against (1), as there is no woman has a name beginning with the same letter of the alphabet as the word featured on the day that she subscribed to the mailing list.

Therefore, "betise" must be appearing on Saturday, "floruit" on Friday and "abulia" on Wednesday with Anna.

Assigned Word to the Woman of the Day

CONCLUSION :

The final table looks like -

Assigned Word to the Woman of the Day

A Round Table Conference

8 people have to be seated at a round banquet table. The seats are number 1-8

For this teaser, 5 is opposite 1, 6 is opposite 2 and so on. Likewise, "next to" means one of the neighboring seats only. i.e., 8 is next to 1 and 7.
A and H are the only French speaking people on the table. They need to be seated together.

B and F should sit opposite each other.

C, F, and G all know Russian, but don't necessarily need to sit next to each other. In fact, G wants to sit next to someone who knows French.

D is English and insists on sitting next to at least one other English speaking person, and pat opposite the good looking H. E is the only other English speaker in the group, but he wants to sit next to someone who knows Russian.

G agrees to sit next to F only on condition that the other side must have a French speaker. C does not sit next to either of them.

C however, agrees to sit next to B, who is the only Bavarian in the group.
A will not sit next to a Russian or an English speaker.

THIS should be the seating arrangement!

What was the arrangement challenge?

Given Data :

8 people have to be seated at a round banquet table. The seats are number 1-8.

1. A and H are the only French speaking people on the table. They need to be seated together.

2. B and F should sit opposite each other.

3. C, F, and G all know Russian, but don't necessarily need to sit next to each other. In fact, G wants to sit next to someone who knows French.

4. D is English and insists on sitting next to at least one other English speaking person, and pat opposite the good looking H.

5. E is the only other English speaker in the group, but he wants to sit next to someone who knows Russian.

6. G agrees to sit next to F only on condition that the other side must have a French speaker. C does not sit next to either of them.

7. C however, agrees to sit next to B, who is the only Bavarian in the group.
A will not sit next to a Russian or an English speaker.

Arranging STEPS :

1] From (1) & (3), it's clear that G should be seating next to the A or H. That is G, A and H are occupying adjacent seats whose order is yet to be known.

Seating Arrangement in A Round Table Conference

2] Now as per (2), B and F must be on opposite seats, they need to 'surround' the group of G - A - H. That's the only way they would be opposite. (There are 2 ways that they can do this and this would result into 2 possible solutions as concluded in conclusion).

Seating Arrangement in A Round Table Conference

3]  As per (6), G is ready to sit next to F so that G and F should be occupying adjacent seats. Order of seat to be occupied by A and H are yet to be known.

Seating Arrangement in A Round Table Conference

4] As per (7), C can seat next to B. A can't seat next to Russian G.

Seating Arrangement in A Round Table Conference

5] As per (4) and (5), D & E should be next to each other but as per (4) D has to be opposite to H.

Seating Arrangement in A Round Table Conference

CONCLUSION :

In order to make seat arrangement in accordance with everyone's preference, we just need to ask them to seat in alphabetical order of their names. Here, seat number doesn't matter and what matters is that everyone is getting their favorite seat.

Interestingly, they can seat in circle clockwise or anticlockwise according to alphabetical order of their names.
